Client(s):
Albert Heijn
Design Challenge:
During this project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Dutch supermarket chain, Albert Heijn. The client envisioned Albert Heijn Deals as a digital-only storefront offering a variety of products, including grills, digital items, and discounted tickets to amusement parks, all easily accessible in select Albert Heijn stores.
My task was to create a new design that would capture the attention of customers and entice them to explore this innovative application.
My approach:
I proposed creating new, visually appealing stands in the storefronts near the checkout areas with the featured products displayed closeby. These stands would feature wall-mounted, touch-based tablet screens similar to those seen in McDonald's restaurants.
By doing so, customers would be invited to try out the new application in a familiar setting, making them more open to giving the service a chance.
Process:
The most important thing about this project was the following: Making a confusing, unknown storefront easy to find and use.
To start, finding a suitable spot within stores to place these new digital storefronts was a challenge that had to be tackled. I decide to place these storefronts right before (self)check-out area’s. This way, users can be attracted to the prototype without taking up too much space in check-out queues or important pathways within the store.
Another important part of the process was testing! A lot of different people enter the Albert Heijn, so making a solution as easy to use as possible was a must. I developed a lo-fi prototype to use for user testing. The feedback gathered from these tests eventually transitioned into the making of the final design.
